About this kit

A birthday comes around for every customer, colleague and follower, which makes it one of the most-sent reasons to post all year: a wish in the comments, a party invitation, a shout-out for a teammate, or a birthday-month offer from a cafΓ© or shop. The emoji here are grouped by those jobs. The cake and candles carry the wish itself, the party set covers invitations and recaps, the gifts set fits offers and surprises, and the number keycaps spell out any age, from a first birthday to a ninetieth. Write the name, the date and the place in words, keep a customer offer clear about what they get and until when, and ask before sharing anyone's age in public.

Using these emoji well

  • Screen readers read number keycaps one by one, so "3️⃣0️⃣" is heard as "keycap 3, keycap 0"; write the age in plain digits as well.
  • Ask before posting a colleague's or customer's birthday or age; some people would rather keep it private.
  • A birthday offer should say exactly what the customer gets and until when, without wording that suggests a gift they then have to pay for.
  • Two or three emoji around a wish are plenty; the name is what the person scrolls for.
